It all began with a simple question:
Where is my “village?”
I (Bethany McCarthy) designed a custom font, brand design and layout with collaborative efforts from the Hythe team and illustrated bespoke pieces that aligned with the brand image and ideals as follows:
We are all desperate for that elusive sense of belonging, and motherhood can make that isolating feeling all the more apparent when you suddenly find yourself in the throes of taking care of someone you’ve only just met and are expected to know what you’re doing. This community began with this in mind: To be a presence in the social media nebulous, a voice of comfort for moms up at 2, 3, 5 am with their little ones that need to know it’s not just them. They are not alone and we can all build a village even in a time when individualism has a calling card that tells everyone “I don’t need a hand, I’ve got this.”
Maria, Bethany and Dora built Hythe to include moms that may be far from home, far from friends, and even for their local city of Long Beach, NY to connect new and veteran moms on the united idea of we are all in this together and learning as we go. They share humorous and relatable content via illustrations and reels and even started a podcast lovingly name Shut Up, Mom as a way to provide a platform for moms who desperately need to vent, or have something to share that is near and dear to their hearts.
